Aufruf_Konzepte_Festival SOHO in Ottakring 2020

Liebe Studierende,

Februar 2020 eure Konzepte abzugeben:

Was wir brauchen: 1A 4 Seite: Kurzbeschreibung (wer, was, wie, warum) + Skizze

Max is a visual programming language that connects sound, visuals and more media. Based on a concept similar to modular synthesizers Max is easy to learn and fast to work with.
Max For Live brings the power of Max to Ableton Live and hugely extends Live’s possibilities with additional instruments, audio effects, modulators and much more. In our course we keep the theory to a minimum and quickly start building Max For Live devices. At the end of the workshop the participants will have working devices for further use/development/learning to take home.
On Friday we introduce the concept, basic principles, important elements, and conventions of Max. We will show what is possible with it and how to achieve it. Then we start with our first device: a melodic MIDI Step Sequencer. Building a MIDI Device is an efficient and motivating way to get into Max while creating something musically useful.
On Saturday we will complete our MIDI Sequencer while learning more programming techniques and tricks. Then we start building a basic, monophonic instrument (synth or sampler).
On Sunday we finish our instrument. Finally we look into the infamous LOM – the Live Object Model. By understanding the LOM you are able to take over control of Ableton Live in unique ways which are impossible with any other DAW .
We will then discuss various topics relevant to musicians who want to build their own instruments and effects like different kinds of “musically useful randomness”, how to implement probability, and topics suggested by the course participants.
The course can be held in English or German, or both, depending on the needs of the students.

SCHNELL BUCHEN! Es hat noch wenige Restplätze: Ableton Live 10 Einsteigerkurs in Wien

Ableton Live has become the quasi-standard for modern electronic music production both on stage and in the studio. We will learn Ableton Live 10 by creating a track while going through all parts of the software.
We start in the Session View by going through Live’s built-in instruments and effects.
Then we create beats and sequence sounds using Drum Racks. We then use synths that come with Live 10 like Analog, Operator and Wavetable to create atmospheres and melodies and work with samples using Simper and Sampler.
For further sound design we add Audio Racks and Audio Effects to our Instrument Channels and Return Channels.
We then draft the track by creating a pool of MIDI and Audio Clips sequencing the sounds and beats we created and finally record it live into the Arrangement View.
There we learn how to edit the arrangement we recorded and fine tune the mix by using Automation Curves. The last step is to export the track to a stereo file.
At the end of the course you will have a file of your track and know about all production steps within Ableton Live.
The course can be held in English or German, or both, depending on the needs of the students.

EIN PAAR PLÄTZE GIBTS NOCH! Schnell buchen!! Modularsynthese ohne Hardware – VCV Rack Einsteigerkurs in Wien

How to design sounds and make music with a modular synthesizer. An Introduction into Modular Synth(esi)s without hardware using the free Open Source software “VCV Rack”
* What are the basic elements of electronic sounds? * What does VCO, LFO, VCF, VCA, or ADSR mean? * How do sequencers work? * How do I patch up these elements to form sounds? * How do I organize sounds into music in a modular environment? * How do the most common sound synthesis techniques – Subtractive Synthesis, FM, Additive Synthesis, Physical Modeling, Sampling or Granular Synthesis – work and what are the concepts behind them?
Using the free Open Source app “VCV Rack” we will answer these questions hands-on while creating soundscapes, music and lots of cool noises. “VCV Rack” is a modular synthesizer software that is oriented at the popular Eurorack format in which simple and not-so-simple modules can be infinitely combined to build complex sound generating systems. It is available for OSX, Windows, and Linux.
We will build an ever growing modular music system while exploring many different modules. When this is working we will learn how to control the VCV patch with MIDI Keyboards and Controllers, and how to combine it with other music software.
During the course we will collect topics and specific requirements from the participants and discuss how to realize them in VCV Rack. We will also talk about the Pros and Cons of modular hardware vs. modular software.
The course can be held in English or German, or both, depending on the needs of the students.
